About the Notaries Act

To empower the Central and State Governments to appoint notaries, not only for the limited purposes of the Negotiable Instruments Act, for all recognised notarial purposes, and to regulate the profession of such notaries, Notaries Act, 1952 was enacted by the Parliament. Section 8 of the said Act specifies the function of the notaries which include to verify, authenicate, certify, verify any instrument.The power of appointment of notaries in the UT of J&K vests in the department of Law,Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Law department is dealing with all affairs of notaries appointed in the UT of J&K .

Become a Notary Public

For Advocates:
  • Be a legal practitioner with at least 10 years of experience.
  • For SC/ST, women, or persons with disabilities, 7 years experience is enough.
For Government Officers:
  • Retired government officers from Law & Judiciary can also apply.

Renewal of Certificate of Practice

  • You are eligible to renew your license 6 months prior to your license expiration date. Your license expiration date is printed on the license
  • Go to the site https://notary.law.jk.gov.in
  • Click on “Login” (use your existing Notary credentials) Fill in the required details
  • Upload Documents e.g Existing Notary Certificate
  • Submit Application
